The Teachers
Helen Curtis graduated at Leeds College of Music with Honours. Helen
is an enthusiastic teacher with a passion for performance as well
as music education and is experienced with students of all ages.
Margaret Dawson has been connected with the College for a great number
of years and was a pupil of the late Victor Hallewell and subsequently
Derek Blackwell. As well as teaching singing Margaret is a trustee
of the College.
Donal Donnelly studied jazz at Wakefield College and jazz and contemporary
and pop music at Leeds College of Music. Previously he was a PE instructor
in the Royal Navy for 10 years. As well as teaching at the College
he directs the College Dance Band. Donal has a busy career teaching
and playing in various bands in the area.
Pam Eden gained her LRAM teaching diploma whilst studying at the
College with Moira Witty and prior to this was a singing pupil of
Noelle Baker.
Joanna Gawthome trained as a professional dancer and toured the Far
East. She now teaches at various schools and has appeared in Heartbeat,
Touch of Frost, Crimewatch and Emmerdale.
Dan Gibson began his professional career with the Grenadier Guards
Band and is currently working as a freelance clarinettist throughout
the North East, mainly as principal clarinet with the National Festival
Orchestra.
Themis Gikopoulos - BA (Hons)
Jazz, MMus Jazz (Electric and Acoustic Guitar) Originally from Athens,
Greece, where he had been a teacher
and performing musician since 1995, Themis relocated to Leeds in
2001 in order to attend the BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies at Leeds College
of Music, from which he graduated in 2004 with a First Class Degree.
He then proceeded to do a Master’s in Jazz Guitar Performance
(completed in October 2005) and is presently an active musician,
teacher and composer in the Leeds/West Yorkshire area.
Patricia Groves gained
her LGSM at the College and has since taught speech and drama
in South Africa and currently at the Leeds Girl
High School and the College. She has pupils working in television
and attending prestigious drama schools in London.
Tim Knight is an ex-chorister
of York Minster under Francis Jackson and the founder of the
Heritage Singers. He is an established composer
with a range of 80 works from choral to orchestral. Tim teaches
singing and a number of his pupils have gone on to success
in national shows
and musical theatre productions. Tim also teaches Music Theory,
Composition and Music Arranging.
Michael Landa BA LTCL (Recorder
Teaching). During the course of his teaching career in the primary
and secondary sectors, Michael has gained experience
in training recorder groups and preparing candidates for public
examinations. Currently he enjoys performing as a soloist with
the AirePipes Recorder
Quartet.
Mark Lindley has acted with
the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in Emmerdale, Coronation
Street, Heartbeat and various
theatre companies.
As well as acting Mark has been teaching drama at the College for
a number of years.
Sue Miller completed the Jazz
course at Leeds College of Music. She set up Charanga del Norte
in 1998 with a view to playing within the
Cuban Charanga tradition. In addition to directing and playing
in Charanga del Norte, Sue teaches flute, piano, saxophone and
also runs workshops
in Cuban music at the College.
Tony Myers' lifelong devotion
to the piano and its enormous repertoire was fulfilled when the
opportunity came 15 years ago to leave his business
life taking a teaching diploma at Trinity College London. Since
then he has taught pupils up to grade 8 and beyond at the College
and at
Leeds Grammar School.
Hazel Smith LTCL, has taught
at the College for a number of years specialising in classical
flute. She also teaches at Leeds Girls' High School and
plays orchestral and chamber music locally. She coaches the College
Flute Choir.
Rod Taylor completed
his degree in music at Leeds College of Music. He works as a peripatetic
violin teacher in Leeds. He teaches primarily classical violin
but has a broad interest in many styles of violin playing from
across the world. This is reflected in the eclectic range of groups
that he regularly performs with.

Alexander Technique
|

Alma Goodall M.STAT qualified at “The North of England Teaching Centre for the FM Alexander Technique” (NETCAT). The three-year full-time course is recognised and moderated by “The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique” (STAT). Alma was also a school teacher for many years.
